“Preserving the Past: Uniting Heritage Crafts at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings with Coach House Forge”

In 2022, Coach House Forge was thrilled to be a part of the grand opening of the newly renovated Flaxmill in Shrewsbury, nestled in the charming heart of Shropshire. The restoration project, initiated by Historic England in 2017, symbolises a magnificent blend of preserving heritage and breathing new life into an historic site. It was indeed a momentous occasion filled with a sense of pride and celebration as the doors opened to this beautifully restored Flaxmill, which is welcoming visitors from far and wide to experience a piece of history in its former glory.

We’re featured in the visitor centre

How exciting and fitting it was for us to be invited to provide our handmade products for sale in the new visitor centre! We were also asked to design a Swift garden decoration, barley stalks and flax flower garden stakes, that encapsulated an environmental history associated with the site; these are exclusive to the Flaxmill Shop.

There is an historical significance of the building being the first iron-framed building, which resonates with us a local blacksmith. It’s magical to think that just an hour from the Mill, we contribute British-made iron goods to enhance the experience for visitors to buy and cherish. Being part of this celebration of history and progress is truly heartwarming, and we are honoured to play a small role in showcasing the innovation and artistry of ironwork.

High-street shops stock our products.

As a business it’s so great to be able to collaborate with such an important piece of local history and we would love to get involved with more UK businesses. In response to this we have created our own Wholesale section of the website and already have local shops in Nantwich, showcasing a range of our products. If you’re a business looking to collaborate with us, don’t hesitate to reach out, we’d love to hear from you!
